About Us

Barbequing has been a tradition in the South since the founding of our great nation. In the good ol' days, families would get together on weekends and holidays just to celebrate life and kinship. When we say families, we're talkin' the whole clan...parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, in-laws, cousins, second-cousins, and just about anyone else who was close enough be considered family. We would begin early and end late and the centerpiece of the gathering was always a pig roast. Everybody had their favorite recipes so when they hosted, they made their special sauce and everyone would bring something else. That's the way it was, and it was a fine time to be part of a long- standing family tradition. All of this went on long before sauces were bottled and marketed by large companies like Hunt's, Heinz and Kraft.

Well, several years ago, one of the aforementioned Carolina clan decided to spread the good tastin' times of the South. That was Carl 'CJ' Joyner, a good ol' boy from North Carolina, and that's the beginning of The Pig Pit. As a youngster, CJ was always thinkin' about a better way to skin a cat, and could charm a fish out of water. You see, CJ was the unofficial barbeque taster at every family event so everybody always made special barbeques to see if he could name the ingredients. His momma and his aunts and uncles were so impressed that they told him if he ever started a barbeque business they would have him start with their special family recipes which had been around for several generations. That's how we came to have Ray's Sweet BBQ Sauce, Red Hot BBQ Sauce and the great tastin' East Carolina favorite Mopping Mix. The rest was history...until CJ met and eventually married a sweet little gal from Georgia. In her honor, he created Dana J's BBQ Sauce, a sweet and dark Georgia style sauce - which we now use for our Georgia Style pulled pork.

We invite you to try some of the finest BBQ sauces ever made, and enjoy the traditions of the ol' South. Join the legions of fans that have discovered Pig Pit's family of products.
